°¬˛ćAƬ Council has today launched a public consultation on a proposal to reduce the number of primary school places within Abertillery Learning Community, in response to significantly declining pupil numbers and increasing financial pressures.
Under the proposal, the Roseheyworth Road Campus would close, with pupils transferring to the Tillery Street and Six Bells campuses. The change is being considered to ensure the long‑term sustainability of the Learning Community and to help protect and enhance educational standards across the area.
The Council is encouraging parents, carers, and the wider community to share their views as part of this consultation.
Residents can learn more about the proposal by clicking here.
As part of the consultation, drop‑in sessions for parents and the local community will be held on:
- Wednesday, 11th March
- The Metropole, Abertillery
- 5pm – 6:30pm
- Tuesday, 17th March
- The Metropole, Abertillery
- 3pm – 6:30pm
Education officers will be available to speak with attendees, provide further information, and listen to community views.
Parents will also receive consultation materials through the usual parent communication channels. In addition, the Council is holding face‑to‑face meetings with staff, school governors, and pupils to ensure that everyone within the school community has the opportunity to contribute.
All feedback received during the consultation period will be carefully considered before any further decisions are made.
The consultation will run until Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
Abertillery Learning Community is a 3 – 16 through school, with three primary campuses and a secondary campus.
